I'm a 32-year-old British-Australian woman, living in country Victoria. I'm a Classicist by education (with a focus on Julio-Claudian Rome) and my soul is undeniably that of a historian. I have also studied editing and writing and currently work as a high school English tutor. My reading focus is upon enjoyment, not literary analysis, so you will find that my reviews dwell more on my reaction to a book than the clever juxtaposition of metaphor and satire in chapter four.

When it comes to favourites, I adore the classics (especially 19th century literature) and ancient texts most of all. However, I also read a lot of young adult fiction and more than a smattering of junior fiction, and these will make up the vast majority of the reviews on Agrippina Legit. While I read quite broadly, my favourite genre is contemporary YA. I grew up on (and still adore) the Sweet Valley universe - and it shows!

I value books that embrace the diversity of human experiences and relationships and those with positive and realistic female characters. On the other hand, I dislike sexist, racist, classist and homophobic works - especially so when these qualities are insidious rather than overstated. I value well-drawn characters over a clever plot and love thoughtful books that make me think.

I post reviews every Monday and Thursday morning, with the chance of an extra review or two during the week.
