It must be good if the suspense is still there even when you read it as an adult. I found that most books I adored as a kid feel dated and juvenile if I re-read them as an adult. For example, Judy Blume. Quite a disappointment.
I re-read a lot of the old Point Thriller series last year, and I couldn't believe I'd enjoyed them so much in school! I'm now a little scared to re-read my Judy Blume books in case I have the same reaction as you!
